The Zip Line Brewing Company from Lincoln, NE launched their beers into Brookings last Saturday at the Wooden Legs Brewing Company . I was fortunate to meet Jason Sitzman, Craig Reier and Tom Wilmoth and try several of their delicious beers at the release party. There was live music, good Zip Line beers and food for the many craft beer fans in attendance.
I tried these beers and they were all good – American Tripel, Copper Alt, NZ IPA, Oatmeal Porter, cask Oatmeal Porter with Blueberry reduction & Black IPA. Please read on for my impressions.
American Tripel – made with American hops (Mosaic & Amarillo) and Westmalle yeast. This was a tasty surprise! There were hints of peach and apricot on the nose. Craig says it is amazing with bleu cheese!
Copper Alt – good crossover beer for craft beer newbies. Good with dry finish (not too sweet – IMHO).
NZ IPA – All New Zealand hops in this one, but not Nelson Sauvin. Nice fruit nose and well balanced. This is a good choice if you are looking for something different from most American-style IPAs.
Oatmeal Porter – Smooth with chocolate notes. The chocolate comes from the malt and not from added cocoa nibs. Nice drinking porter.
Oatmeal Porter on cask with blueberry reduction – nice variation on an already tasty beer!
Black IPA – Nice hoppy nose balanced with chocolate/ roasty malts. Complex and good! I bought a four pack which disappeared in no time!
Zip Line is only two years old and they have an excellent line of diverse beers. I am looking forward to trying their other offerings. The best news is they will soon be expanding by adding 80 barrel fermenters. Thanks to Wooden Legs Brewing Company for hosting the party and to Nathan Holbeck of Global Distributing!
