I was on a business trip to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada recently to attend a veterinary pathology conference. I have attended this conference many times. I always walk from the conference hotel to Winston’s Pub in the city center. It is located in the old Hotel Senator. Saskatoon is built on the South Saskatchewan River. In the fall it is a beautiful walk.
Winston’s has a good selection of craft beers. It has been fun to try beers from new Canadian craft breweries over the last several years. The Delta Bessborough Hotel is along the route. It is one of the grand Canadian railroad hotels which include the Banff Springs Hotel and Empress Hotel in Victoria. This year I was able to try beers from Central City Brewers (Red Racer IPA), Black Bridge Brewery and Nokomis Craft Ales. In the past I have enjoyed beers from Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery (Smashbomb Atomic IPA) and Half Pints Brewing Company (Little Scrapper IPA). I usually have the Shepherds Pie while there. The combination of craft beers and pub food hits the spot!
It is worth your while to stop at Winston’s if and when you are in Saskatoon. Ask the bartender for recommendations and try some good Canadian craft beers!
