What do you have to look forward to after the holiday seasonal beers? Summit Brewing Company supplies us with the answer. Frost Line Rye is a new seasonal release that will help warm you on a cold winter night. Craft beer fans might remember Summit’s Unchained 03 India Rye Ale from 2010 (see my review here). I loved that beer and hoped to see it again. Frost Line Rye is a similar and delicious beer.
The malt bill includes US pale, UK rye, UK crystal rye, German chocolate rye, US flaked rye and the hops include Summit, Citra and 01210 (currently unnamed). Citra hops are used again in the dry hopping. The IBUs = 50-55 and the ABV = 5.8%. The price is $7.99/6 pack of 12 oz. bottles (plus local taxes).
Frost Line Rye pours out a beautiful amber color with a light tan head into a pint glass. The nose is a combination of spicy rye, citrus and floral hops. The flavor is as good as the aroma with prominent spicy rye balanced by the hops. The rye taste has hints of pepper spiciness that make this beer memorable. I really like this beer! You will like if you like Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye (another seasonal rye beer). Thanks Summit for bring back one of your great releases! Frost Line Rye should help you enjoy the remaining winter months before spring arrives.
