I picked up a mixed sixer of Mikkeller single hop IPAs at John’s Grocery in Iowa City. I thought it would be interesting to compare the different flavors. I tried them over a two night session in a pint glass. The beers were similar in appearance with golden/amber color and healthy two finger heads. There was usually good lacing on the glass. The listed ABV on the label was usually 6.9%. I found out that most of the beers were good (IPAs are my favorite beer style)! I liked the Cascade, Chinook, Nelson Sauvin and East Kent Golding varieties the best. I liked the Warrior and Nugget varieties slightly less.
These beers are imported from Denmark and are around $5 each, so I would only recommend them for something different. Plenty of good American IPAs are available locally. I would recommend Sierra Nevada Torpedo, Boulder Beer Mojo, New Belgium Ranger or Boulevard Brewing Single Wide IPAs.
