Iowa Trip

Sue and I made a trip to see our daughter, Beth, receive her PhD from the University of Iowa on May 15.  We were able to make a quick stop in Sioux City and meet Tim Hynds of the Sioux City Journal.  Tim is the beer blogger for the newspaper.  His blog is named Sioux Brew.  I encourage everyone to become a regular reader because he does an excellent job!  We traded several beers.  I hope to see Tim at some upcoming beer festivals and correspond about happenings on the craftbeer scene.

We stayed in Iowa City which was packed for the graduation weekend.  I was able to visit John’s Grocery Saturday morning.  John’s has one of the best beer selections in the midwest.  Doug Alberhasky, grandson of the founder, helped me with some selections.  I was able to take home some Bell’s Two Hearted Ale, a mixed sixer of Mikkeller single hop IPAs and a couple bombers of the Millstream 25th Anniversary Dopplebock.  I will certainly stop again if I travel in the area.

Beth received her PhD in pharmacy Saturday afternoon.  She and her husband Josh live near Grand Rapids, MI.  Beth teaches biochemistry to pharmacy students at Ferris State University.  We are very proud of her!

We made a quick stop at Olde Main Brewing Company in Ames on Sunday to pick up a six pack of their various beers.  We were in a hurry to get home so we couldn’t stay long.  We will definitely stop longer next time.
