Horseshoes & Hand Grenades APA (American Pale Ale) is a special release from the Central Waters Brewing Company. It is a good “change up beer” if you like pale ales like I do. I found that I was a little fatigued with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. It is a great classic craft beer with notes of grapefruit and pine in the aroma, but I was looking for a slightly different taste. The Sierra Nevada Pale Ale contains Cascade hops which were new in the 80’s. The Horseshoes & Hand Grenades (HHG) updates the American pale ale with Mosaic and Citra hops. The hops combine for a delicious combination of tropical fruit, citrus, pine, grapefruit and melon in the aroma. See my tasting notes below.
HHG pours out a hazy gold with a white head into a pint glass. The aroma and taste are a mixture of citrus, grapefruit and tropical fruits. It is very tasty! This is a good beer, but it is a special release. Encourage Central Waters to make it a seasonal or regular release!
Established craft breweries are looking at some of their original recipes and tweaking them to suit evolving palates and ingredients. Congratulations to Central Waters Brewing for this good beer. It is win-win for them and for craft beer drinkers!
