Derek Soukup of Hydra Beer Co. with the BRRRVANA report for SODAK Beer Blog February 20, 2016 at Monks House of Ale Repute and Gandy Dancer.
In what is becoming the Sioux Falls rare beer festival, the 2016 BRRRVANA continues to outdo itself. This year marked increased attendance (over 400), 51 beers on tap featuring many more local options than ever before and the first ever keg of Toppling Goliath tapped in South Dakota (Naughty 90). Of course great weather never hurts but its all about drinking great beer with great people. I enjoyed all three. To say local beer has begun to take hold here is an understatement. The first 5 beers to empty were all local. Hydra Death Breath with Mango was first to go, followed by Take 16’s Country Tart, Brau Brothers Village Tart on Raspberries, Miner Pomegranate Gose, and Schell’s Apricot Vista. Four sours on this list indicate the popularity of the style but it also shows that the local breweries know what they are doing and many brewery representatives were on hand to talk about the beer they brought. Featured music by Condor in the back bar and Snortz BBQ with their food truck in the parking lot made for another perfect event.
