Boulevard 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer is an effort to create a refreshing beer with the aroma of an IPA and the character of a wheat beer. The name “80-Acre” was suggested by a Boulevard regional sales representative, Todd Hanson, who grew up working on a family farm in my home state of South Dakota where hay fields are sometimes divided into 80-acre fields. In keeping with the brewery’s flagship beer, Unfiltered Wheat Beer, the new beer’s name and packaging pays tribute to the region that provides so many of its crucial ingredients and base of support. 80-Acre will be a year-round beer and will be priced at $7.99/6 pack of 12 oz. bottles.
ABV = 5.4%
IBUs = 20
The beer pours cloudy and gold with a white head into a pint glass. The aroma and taste feature lemon, grapefruit and wheat. A nice level of carbonation gives the beer a clean mouthfeel and makes it refreshing. There is a nice balance between the malt and hops.
Congratulations Boulevard for hitting the mark with this new lemony refreshing summer beer!
August 24 addition from Julie Weeks at Boulevard on the 80 Acre recipe “The malts are: pale malt, wheat, wheat malt.
The hops are: Bravo, CTZ, and Summit hops for bittering. Don’t get too
wrapped up in the bittering hops as they change with availability. For
80-Acre Hoppy Wheat beer we add Cascade hops in the whirlpool and it also
gets dry hopped with Cascade and Nelson Sauvin hops”.
Note – this beer was complimentary from Boulevard.
