The July Beer Night at Cottonwood Bistro was held July 28. A good crowd was on hand to enjoy three different craft beers and appetizers.
The first beer sampled was the Sheep Head Ale from the Brau Brothers, Lucan, MN. This beer is a hop lovers dream with 88 IBUs (international bittering units).
The next two beers were from the Wooden Legs Brewing Company of Brookings, SD. They plan to open their brewpub at 309 5th Street this fall. Seth Koch and Brant Mathiason brought their American Farmhouse Ale (Saison style ale) and Split Rock Creek Pale Ale. The Saison was tasty and very appropriate for our recent hot weather. The Pale Ale was “wet hopped” with extra Cascade hops grown at Spearfish, SD which added a little extra fruitiness to the flavor.
The future of craft beer in Brookings is bright with two new brewing companies and more choices in our bars and restaurants. Eating and drinking local is good!
